A word from Tara- Founder/ Director Roots to Wellbeing CIC
Roots to well-being is a Harlow charity.
Funds raised from this event will be directly supporting our Mens mental health group run with support from @toughenoughtocare and fair access to therapies to include Counselling
I have been chief for many years delivering and applying for ‘patchwork’ funds to grow what we do. We are humbled and grateful for your support and exposure as a grassroots, heart based organisation
We currently are run by 22 volunteers, including myself. This year has been tough for funding and paying rent on our Counselling and therapy spaces.
Mental health needs are increasing, especially for people who are neurodiverse.
I’m an Occupational Therapist, neurodiverse and my Mum was a nurse with Bipolar (in Claybury – big institution many moons ago) Through what I have seen and experienced in the crumbling system Roots started with events supporting mental health in 2018. Based on the 5 ways to Wellbeing (connect, take notice, be active, keep learning and give – we find give often refers to giving time to ourselves as many people we work with care for others 1st and neglect themselves)
At Roots to Wellbeing, we support mental, emotional, cognitive and Physical health and wellbeing.
We attract many ‘flower shaped pegs’ – people who might struggle to access conventional services as they don’t ‘fit in a box’
Supporting people to regain control of their lives with dignity, tools, opportunities, confidence, practical skills, and resilience.
We empower through meaningful activities and access to groups and therapies as we feel people should thrive, not just survive.
This includes free men’s mental health group, low cost counselling, SEND groups for families and children, cycle recycling and Inclusive Cycling scheme teaching maintenance and confidence, complimentary therapies, Nordic Walks and long term exercise programme (all on affordable sliding scale) and Reach pre school familiy village – over 290 families have attended this many mothers with post natal depression and supported extended families and a monthly free group – walk, Talk, Do and care with Matipo Arts at Parndon Mill where people get to reconnect and learn new skills. We took 2 x 83 coaches to Walton on the Naze this summer, many families had never seen the sea.
Thankyou for volunteering your time, your kindness and support means so much
